Private Recovery Coaching
Sometimes known in the industry as a “sober companion” — a Private Recovery Coach guides, supports and mentors clients through early recovery: reinforcing coping strategies, building healthy routines, and helping the client recognize and navigate triggers and high-risk situations.
They serve as both accountability partner and trusted mentor—offering guidance, encouragement, and structure—while observing behavioral changes and promptly communicating concerns to the client’s own treatment team, ensuring that potential setbacks are addressed before they escalate.
What a Private Recovery Coach Provides
Coaches serve as an extra set of trained eyes & ears in the client’s daily environment, helping maintain stability, reinforcing therapeutic goals, and identifying early signs that a higher level of care may be needed.
Every engagement is individually designed for the client & family in their specific situation, and structured as coaching — hourly sessions, full days, travel support, or entirely virtual — scaling back as independence grows. We pair each client with a Private Recovery Coach who will do it the client’s way: if that means a gym partner, a live-music enthusiast, or a cinephile, we will find the right match.
Coaches are certified by reputable organizations; International Coach Federation (ICF) / International Association of Professional Recovery Coaches (IAPRC) / The Recovery Coach Academy
How We Vet Our Coaches
Coaches must have at least 5 years of personal sobriety and relevant professional experience. We verify their experience and qualifications.
It’s crucial that you feel comfortable with your coach. Many offer a free initial consultation to see if their style and approach align with your needs.
A dedicated, trained Private Recovery Coach provides continuous encouragement, accountability and guidance during high-risk moments, and helps establish consistent daily routines in early recovery. The work is practical rather than theoretical: goal setting, impulse control, social development and community connection, in the hours and places where those things are hardest.
How We Match Clients To Coaches
01
Establish clear, personal goals based on your needs—whether they’re related to career, fitness, or personal development.
02
Create a coaching plan that suits your schedule, learning style, and preferences. This might include specific exercises, reading materials, or strategies.
03
Schedule regular sessions to track progress, adjust goals, and provide feedback. This ensures that the coaching remains relevant and impactful. Be flexible in adapting the coaching approach based on your evolving needs or any challenges you face.
04
Use resources that align with your interests and goals, like targeted articles, videos, or tools. Utilize technology for interactive sessions, such as video calls, shared documents, and apps that facilitate real-time communication and progress tracking.
